Reasons for Introduction

Obsolete Reasons for Introduction

MMS2403 is a second year core unit to the Bachelor of Multimedia Systems (Applications, Programming and Games Development majors). This unit will provide a detailed understanding of the principles and practices involved in the creation and implementation of user-centred interaction with multimedia products and systems in business, entertainment, education and social environments. Focus will be on the development of multimedia that enhances the efficiency, safety, functionality usability and the aesthetic appeal of the user experience with multimedia at the interface between the user and the technology that is the development of technologies, tools, which aid the human mind (cognitive artifacts). This unit will explore both technologically determinist arguments and the socially deterministic ways in which technology might conform to human use and abilities.

Reasons for Change (28 Jul 2004, 3:40pm)

Teaching will comprise two hours of lectures and two hours of tutorials per week

The assessment tasks will be designed to test the understanding and knowledge of the concepts covered in this unit. They will be required to design and present storyboards for an interface based on a visual metaphor, design and create an interface based on a period of art history and design and create an interactive interface for a wizard to guide a user through a process. The end of semester examination will be designed to test understanding of all objectives, with particular emphasis on C1-3.

Assessment

Strategies of Assessment (26 Jul 2004, 3:18pm)

The final mark will be calculated using a weighting formula:

final grade = (R*A* E)/((R-1)*A+E)

where A = overall assignment percentage, E = examination percentage, R = 100/assignment weight

If a student achieves a grade of 0% for assignments the final grade will be:

Final grade = E / 2.5

Assessment Relationship to Objectives (28 Jul 2004, 3:37pm)

Students will study the development of multimedia that enhances the efficiency, safety, functionality usability and the aesthetic appeal of the user experience with multimedia at the interface between the user and the technology ? that is the development of technologies, tools, which aid the human mind
