FIT5198 is a part of the suite of Industry experience units to be introduced in 2015 as part of the reviewed Masters courses. Students are given the opportunity to research and develop new skills, and apply the skills and knowledge they have gained, towards the development of a real-world IT application.

FIT5198 is part of the suite of industry experience units available in the IT postgraduate courses. The Industry Experience Project capstone units allow students to experience the ambiguity and complexity of developing and delivering a real IT application in a supported environment. It gives them the opportunity to research and develop new skills, and apply the skills and knowledge they have gained, assisting in transition to professional work in the IT industry.

At the completion of this unit students will be able to:

  • understand how IT applications are developed, including all aspects of the development process;
  • understand the roles and responsibilities of clients, system users, management and developers in a development project;
  • apply, in a practical setting, aspects of the theoretical IT work;
  • develop an IT application using a prescribed methodology, conducting all activities associated with the development methodology;
  • work with clients or client representatives, communicating effectively with them to meet their requirements;
  • operate effectively as a member of a development team.

    The industry experience project capstone units give students the opportunity to develop new skills and apply the knowledge and skills they have gained, in the development of an IT application for a real world client. In teams, students design, develop and deliver an IT applications for a client, manage the project through all its development stages, communicate effectively with all project stakeholders and develop project documentation to a professional standard. Students also present their project work to academics and other groups, attend unit seminars, and contribute in a professional and committed manner to the work of their team.

    Students must enrol in FIT5120 in conjunction with FIT5198. It is highly recommended that students enrol in FIT5122 in conjunction with FIT5120 and FIT5198.

    Laboratories must be booked in studio spaces. Maximum of 20 students per studio group.

    Studios for FIT5198 must be linked to studios for FIT5120. Where students are doing FIT5122 in the same semester, the studios for FIT5122 should be linked to the studios for FIT5120 and FIT5198 as the students will be working in the same teams across all 3 units.
