9/09/13 - On behalf of CE, modified wording of objectives based on advice from Director Education Quality. Amended objectives to comply with AQF requirements.

GPC 3/2014 endorsed changing FIT5132 foundation unit to FIT9132 foundation unit to differentiate the foundation units from the non-foundation units. This change will be reflected in the 3348 - Master of Information Technology; 3342 - Master of Business Information Systems and 4313 - Master of Information Technology Professional/Master of Business Information Systems Professional. FIT5132 will be disestablished at the end of 2014 and FIT9132 will be offered from Semester 1,2015.

09/03/2015 - This unit was a foundation unit in the Masters programs and has been replaced by FIT9132

FIT5132 is one of the foundation units for the Master of Information Technology and Master of Business Information Systems postgraduate students. It prepares students so that they will understand the theoretical and practical aspects of providing computer solutions to real world problems.

This unit will introduce the concept of data management in an organisation through relational database technology. Theoretical foundation of relational model, analysis and design, implementation of relational database using SQL will be covered.
