During the review of the Bachelor of Information Systems it was determined that students needed a broad overview of development practices as they relate to multimedia systems. These are important concepts for students wishing to practice as systems developers. Students graduating within systems development have as key focus of their degree in developing their skills in analysis and project management. This unit applies their analysis and management in to a multimedia context.

FIT3087 Management of Multimedia Systems Development is an elective 3rd level unit in the Caulfied BITS major in Systems Development.

Relates to other units in terms of situating the content from a project managment perspective. Complements systems development units but does not replace these

This unit provides an option for students wishing to specialise in systems development particularly in project management of multimedia systems projects, including web based systems.

At the completion of this unit the students should have knowledge of:

• C1. The underpinning theories relevant to managing the development process for multimedia systems
• C2. The principles, practices and development cycle applicable to developing multimedia systems
• C3. The issues relating to teamwork and project management for different development platforms and user issues

At the conclusion of the unit students should:

• A1. Appreciate the development of multimedia systems from a user and management perspective
• A2. Differentiate between developing for multimedia systems from other development practices

During the process of studying this unit students will be required to put into practice some of the multimedia skills learnt including:

• P1. Acquisition of new skills required for emerging technologies
• P2. Skills to gather user need requirements in a multimedia development process
• P3. Transfer skills and knowledge learnt elsewhere into a multimedia development environment
