FIT3083 e-Business software technologies - disestablished (28 Apr 2021, 3:30pm) [EBUS SW TECHS (17 May 2012, 12:57pm)]

Reasons for Introduction

Reasons for Introduction (22 May 2012, 12:12pm)

This is a Further IT core unit for third year students in the BBIS. It focuses on programming technologies and extends students' understanding from the OOP paradigm to the concepts and principles of component based software systems.

Reasons for Change (28 Apr 2021, 3:30pm)

07/12/2017 - Updating prerequisites to include the new programming unit.

June 2017: update to learning outcomes, synopsis and prerequisites to align with FIT2095 (to be co-taught in S2 2017). FIT3083 will be offered for the final time in 2017. Discussed with Chief Examiner.

Sept 2015: CE updated workload requirements following a discussion with Clayton HOC resulting from suggestions from the student/staff meeting. Implementation Sem 1, 2016.

28/05/2014 - Change objectives to learning outcomes for AQF compliance.

Removed Systems analysis and design from ASCED codes after advice from central confirmed that there cannot be 2 codes for one unit. Confirmed with CE that Programming is appropriate code.

Updated ASCED codes with % breakdown. Amended prerequisites to allow for FIT1002 change in 2013.

Now offered at third year level in order to accommodate the new second year programming language.

28/4/2021 - Unit disestablished at FEC 2/21 Item 6.2

Role, Relationship and Relevance of Unit (22 May 2012, 6:43pm)

This unit is a third year core unit in the Bachelor Business Information Systems (BBIS).

This unit introduces students to the technologies required to implement (lower level) e-Business Systems via a pragmatic introduction to programming Web-based applications. Although this unit is entirely suitable for a future developer of e-Business Systems its main focus is future managers of such developments.

The unit exposes students to as many of the currently popular eBusiness technologies as possible so that their design and implementation decisions in the future will be informed and therefore produce successful systems with a high degree of probability.

Objectives

Objectives (22 Jun 2017, 11:39am)

At the completion of this unit, students should be able to:

  • describe the current technological options with respect to e-business application development and the most likely trends going forward;
  • analyse and debug existing e-Business applications;
  • design, code and test basic e-Business applications using current industrial strength techniques;
  • describe and use some of the core APIs used in e-Business applications;
  • apply good programming practices in accordance with industry standards and professional ethics.

    Synopsis (22 Jun 2017, 12:20pm)

    Non-B2B e-Business applications are now mostly developed for Web and mobile platforms. With the advent of mobile Web apps a set of technologies and techniques has emerged that are shared by both Web and mobile application development. This unit introduces, explains and uses these technologies and techniques to build basic but industrial strength e-Business applications. The topics covered will be selected from the following: an overview of the current state-of-play in e-Business application development, HTML5 (the living standard), CSS3, object oriented JavaScript for large developments, JavaScript APIs, Ajax, JSON, XML and related W3C technologies, jQuery, jQuery Mobile, MVC, ASP.NET MVC, ECMAScript 2015 and beyond, Angular, TypeScript, React. The appropriateness of the selected technologies in different contexts, together with relevant best practice techniques for their use and integration will also be covered.
