The particular focus of this subject is on the role and usage of knowledge resources in improving organisational efficiency. The students will learn methods of developing information systems that allow individuals and organisations to manage their knolwedge resources.

2005: Existing unit IMS3012 Knowledge Management being updated to fit into the new BITS degree structure with new FIT unit code.

FIT3069 Knowledge Management Systems Development is an elective 3rd level unit in the Caulfied BITS major in Systems Development.

This unit will replace the existing BIS elective IMS3012 "Knowledge Management"

This elective unit is part of the Information Management stream of units, which build a foundation for professional accreditation by respective professional bodies

To build a basic understanding of knowledge management through a range of techniques for utilising personal and organisational knowledge for the purpose of addressing organisational efficiency.

On completion of this subject students should:

The examination will assess the students' knowledge and understanding of the concepts described previously. The student's skill in application of some of the techniques will be assessed in the laboratory work and through practical exercises. Practical work will be focussed on developing and assessing the student's skill competence in the techniques covered in the subject. A range of practical assignment work will be used to give students opportunity to explore the role of these systems in practice. The practice of the techniques taught will also depend on the student's knowledge of the technique, when the technique can be appropriately applied, and the impact the technique and the system development may have. This will be used to assess students' development of attitudes and understanding.
