FIT3011 Enterprise Programming is an elective unit that extends the programming techniques learned in the core units of the Application Development and Networks major of the Bachelor of IT and Systems. It represents a practical preparation for those students wishing to commence their careers with an emphasis on programming.

This unit has been updated as part of the requirements to amend all unit objectives to become learning outcomes before 2015 under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

Role, Relationship and Relevance of Unit (29 Oct 2009, 6:14pm)

This is a third level elective in the Applications Development and Networks major of the Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems (BITS). It builds on knowledge acquired in Java programming, database and web programming units and extends programming knowledge and skills developed in core units of the major for students wishing to work as programmers.

This unit covers: Distributed database systems: clients, servers, application servers; Database servers, clusters of servers; Distributed database architectures: single-tier, two-tier, multi-tier; Implementation issues: performance, security, transactions; Enterprise application server capabilities: hot deployment, clean shutdown, clustering, farming, load balancing, automatic fail-over; Enterprise application coding: DBMS access, distributed components, messaging services, authentication, authorisation, encryption, transactions; and Enterprise application software development tools. Access to the University's computer systems through an Internet service provider is compulsory for off-campus students.
