Reasons for Introduction (13 Apr 2005, 5:27pm)

Following the 2004 Review of the Faculty of Information Technology this unit forms part of the Multimedia major established within the Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems degree.

Reasons for Change (28 Apr 2021, 3:22pm)

This unit has been renamed and updated to better suit the overall learning objectives of the new Multimedia Development major. It aligns with the content of the other units in the new major and the revised Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems degree.

Modified location of offering. This unit no longer runs at Berwick

May 2013

Changed workload/special requirements information to reflect labs with required software

February 2014

Modified additional timetabling requirements to reflect lab specifications.

Changed objectives to outcomes

March 2014

Administrative change - updating workload to reflect handbook format.

May 2014

Admin update: minor change to learning outcomes (as approved by ADE).

January 2017

Changed additional timetabling requirements to reflect new lab specifications.

Changed outcome number 3 - This related to an old assignment from when the Unit first ran and the technical and creative requirements were rather dated.

The new assignment will employ more current techniques so the outcome was changed to reflect this.

Admin: confirmed changes are for Semester 2, 2017

28/4/2021 - Unit disestablished at FEC 2/21 Item 6.2

Role, Relationship and Relevance of Unit (05 Aug 2010, 12:01pm)

This unit introduces students to the principles and concepts underlying current high-end video production techniques. It extends the material presented in FIT2026 Sound and Video Studio and provides knowledge and skills which the student can apply within their third year studio project/s (FIT3039/3040). Recent developments in various hardware technologies and increasingly more sophisticated software developments have combined to allow desktop users to create high end graphical and audio compositions which would, until recently have been considered the domain of large professional studios. Increasingly, complex audiovisual presentations are being used to convey information. Applications include information visualization, education, entertainment and marketing.

Objectives

Use sound and video recording software to create a video product that incorporates digital compositing and manipulation of video and graphic elements.

Demonstrate aesthetic and technical skills in creating virtual environments by lighting and positioning elements in 3D space.

Demonstrate skill and understanding of compositing techniques.
