Following the 2004 Review of the Faculty of Information Technology this unit forms part of the Multimedia major established within the Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems degree.

Reasons for Change (30 Nov 2017, 12:28pm)

This unit has been updated to align it with the structure of the new Multimedia Development major of the Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems degree.

Role, Relationship and Relevance of Unit (05 Aug 2010, 1:20pm)

This unit builds on concepts and skills acquired in FIT1012 with regard to digital video and audio formats commonly used in the creation of audiovisual content. Recent developments in technology have made the dissemination web based video, in a variety of formats, more efficient. However in most cases the devices involved in recording and editing this content Digital video cameras and audio recording devices as well as domestic television and DVD players still conform to broadcast standards. This subject introduces students to the technology and techniques involved in producing audiovisual content using these standards to produce informational video content of a technical quality consistent with standard DVD technology which can thereafter be repurposed for other mediums such as CD ROM and the web. Skills developed in this unit can be applied to the following : FIT3008, Advanced digital video, FIT3039, Studio 1 and FIT3040, Studio 2.

    This unit provides a theoretical and practical guide to the processes involved in producing audiovisual content designed for informational purposes. It will cover the processes involved in designing and documenting such a project in terms of the information delivered and the logistics involved, the actual recording and editing of media used in the project, including technical standards conventionally employed in video and DVD production. This unit will be delivered in a studio environment with an emphasis on collaborative learning.

    This unit has a group based assessment component of 60% and an individual component of 40%. To pass in this unit a student must obtain: 40% or more in the individual assessment, and 40% or more in the group assessment, and an overall unit mark of 50% or more. If a student does not achieve 40% or more in the unit group assessment or the unit individual assessment and the total mark for the unit is greater than 50% then a mark of no greater than 49-N will be recorded for the unit.

    Minimum total expected workload equals 12 hours per week comprising:

    (a.) Contact hours for on-campus students:

  • One 1-hour lecture
  • One 3-hour studio
  • (b.) Additional requirements (all students):

  • A minimum of 8 hours independent study per week for completing lab and project work, private study and revision.
