Reasons for Introduction

Obsolete Reasons for Introduction

The Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics was approached by the working party from the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering in the Faculty of Information Technology to introduce a suitable first year mathematical/statistical elective for Bachelor of Computing students. This subject was sought because the mathematical prerequisite for students enrolling in the Bachelor of Computing degree is only "units 1 and 2 of any VCE mathematics", yet many subjects within the degree draw upon and extend a student's mathematical/statistical background. In the past, quantitative subjects have been offered to the Faculty of Information Technology by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics in the Faculty of Science. However, as this department now has a very limited presence on Caulfield campus, the Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics was approached to provide this subject.
